Izmir Photographic Art Association (IFOD) was established in 1986 under the name “Izmir Association of Photography and Cinema Amateurs” by amateurs living in Izmir who were active as photo groups in various institutions in the city.
In 1993, the name of the association was changed to “IZMIR PHOTOGRAPHIC ART ASSOCIATION”. This change conveys a meaningful accent on the quality of the togetherness of people from different social layers and professions, who choose photography as a means of artistic expression, who wish to share it, meeting over the common denominator of photographic art.
IFOD, as one of the establishing members of Photographic Art Federation Turkey (TFSF), continues to contribute to the art of photography in Izmir and the country, with its approximate number of 200 members, by executing its responsibilities, organizing photograph training sessions, seminars, competitions and various photo workshops.
Additionally, due to the fact that photography serves as documentary, all our members also contribute to the city memory of, first of all Izmir, and then, various regions in our country and in the world.
One of the most important accomplishments of IFOD is “IZMIR INTERNATIONAL PHOTOGRAPHY DAYS” the first of which was realized in 2011. With the decision to execute it bi-annually due to its concentrated program and wide attendance profile, it is organized in October every two years place in Izmir. This activity aims at local and foreign photograph artists to come together in Izmir. It also undertakes an important duty in the city’s cultural and artistic life by bringing together the photograph lovers of Izmir with the artists. The second of Izmir International Photography Days was realized in 2013. The third was realized in 2015 with the participation of 80 photographers, eighteen of them from abroad.
